There has been a strong demand in Bridgend for residential development for some time, together with a need for quality business space and a northern bypass - which would also create better road access for the business and industrial parks. Multiple land ownership has made this structured approach difficult to achieve. The WDA has acquired some 36ha (90 acres) of land with the following outcomes. With the land assembled, the WDA Land team has been able to enter into detailed negotiations with Westbury Homes and Wimpey Homes. Other affected landowners have also been brought into the discussions, to accommodate their interests. The Land Team is also promoting the construction of the Coity bypass, which runs through the Brackla Industrial Estate, which will provide much relief to this beleaguered village. Bridgend should now, over the coming ten years, acquire up to 1500 new homes, together with the infrastructure and sites needed for its future growth. This presents a variety of opportunities for organisations interested in developing this location.
