Welcome to Accelerate Wales

This is the first major Sector-based initiative for the Automotive Industry in Wales. It is supported by a wide body of partner organisations but is managed by the WDA. It draws on all the partners' experience in terms of business support, development and education and is supported by significant resources.

In adopting a top-down supply-chain specific approach, Accelerate Wales reflects the experience gained by the Agency from its Supplier Association and Cluster initiatives as well as that demonstrated by the Industry Forum Supply Chain Group activity. Accelerate will provide resources for the sector in the form of Supply-Chain Champions each being based in a 'Lead' company. They project manage activity to improve the performance of within their supply-chain.

The initiative further improves the knowledge base by training employees in various best-practice tools and techniques and spread the knowledge via a Champion's network. Additionally, a high-quality training programme and a sophisticated website that provide access to industry specific knowledge; training material and a directory of expert contacts support the initiative.

Accelerate Wales provides direct support to the supply-chain in the form of funding for the Champion, however, most of the training and education would result from referral to other programmes where they are appropriate and where funding exists. Thus the provision of support is via all partners and flexible to provide the Champions with a measure of freedom in the design and implementation of their own business development plans.

As such, Accelerate Wales reflects the concept of it being an industry driven initiative, conceived for Welsh Automotive companies to meet their particular needs and in doing so, it brings significant benefits to the Welsh economy as a whole.
