Welsh software and IT services businesses are increasingly establishing collaborations with global industry players, such as Microsoft. Collaboration also extends to blue-chip players in the sector, with IBM Business Consulting Services collaborating with Fujitsu Services to deliver services for the DVLA.
Wales is home to 20 accredited centres of excellence for technology and industrial collaboration, each recognised for thier world-class facilities and exceptional track record of successful industrial collaboration.
Wales' universities are also playing a significant role in the collaborative culture of the Welsh software and IT services sector, not least because they are generating a steady stream of spin-outs companies such as Aqwan, Rockfield Software and e-Semi.
Additionally, Broadband Wales, which represents a significant Welsh Assembly Government investment, is equipping Wales with a strategic broadband infrastructure.

Broadband Wales is creating a Wales-wide broadband infrastructure and equiping strategic business parks with high-speed broadband connections. The programme is particularly relevant to the software and IT services sector, better equipping it to compete globally.
For Nigel Roberts, managing director of web software developer Imaginet, the broadband communication infrastructure in Cardiff was a key motivational factor in this decision to set-up the company in Wales.
