Innovative Carmarthenshire company Kid Me Not , will prove the versatility of its goats milk when it launches its first cheese at next week’s Royal Welsh Show (July 23-26).
More usually associated with its goats milk fudge and probiotic smoothies, the company has embarked on a collaboration with local cheese makers, the Carmarthenshire Cheese Company , which is already known for its Pont Gâr soft cheese and Llangloffan hard farmhouse style cheeses.
The new cheese was developed to a very tight brief and timescale using Carmarthenshire Cheese Company’s facilities at the Welsh Assembly Government funded Food Centre Wales at Horeb near Llandysul.
Says Kid Me Not founder, Loraine Makowski-Heaton “The overall objective was to create a mild, creamy cheese with a delicate, smooth texture, which would appeal to all ages and palates yet have all the benefits derived from fresh goat’s milk.”
The milk from her family’s herd of goats at Ffynnongrech Farm, Talley, near Llandeilo is used to make the cheese which was first tasted by the public at food events in Carmarthen and Swansea, where it sold out every time.
“We are absolutely delighted with the cheese and it has surpassed our expectations,” said Loraine who runs the business in partnership with her husband Mike and parents June and Sid Heaton.
“Working with Steve and Sian at the Carmarthenshire Cheese Company has been a fantastic opportunity, and initial reaction and sales have confirmed we are on to a winner, which is down to Carmarthenshire Cheese Company’s staff and cheese technology and our high quality goats milk from our herd of mainly Anglo Nubian, Toggenburg and Saanen goats.”
Said Carmarthenshire Cheese Company Director, Steve Peace, “We always stated that we wanted to act as a catalyst for others and are great believers in cooperation to help other business get innovative products to market. “We were confident with the task given, coming on the back of our own products and other contract manufacturing we do. Working with Loraine at Kid Me Not has been great fun if not a challenge! “
Kid Me Not’s new mild and creamy cheese will be on sale in the Food Hall at the Royal Welsh Show along with their range of goat’s milk fudge and probiotic yoghurt smoothies.
Carmarthenshire Cheese Company’s Pont Gâr range of soft cheeses will also be on sale at the Royal Welsh Show.
