Welsh ready meals will soon be on the menu alongside paella and gazpacho following a Spanish export deal secured by The Authentic Curry Company.
The first consignment from the Hirwaun based company leaves the UK soon for the Balearic Isles and Costa region of southern Spain.
The nine lines being exported include the company’s authentic curries, its authentic world foods range - which include dishes such as Celtic Pride Welsh Beef lasagne and pasta dishes - and newly launched gourmet dishes such as butter chicken.
Primarily aimed at the tourism and food service markets, it is the first time the company - which prides itself on using as many Welsh ingredients as possible - has sold its products outside of the UK.
“A lot of hard work has gone into securing this market, and I am delighted at the outcome,” said Paul Trotman, founder and managing director of The Authentic Curry Company.
“A lot of market research has been carried out and we have worked closely with the international arm of Welsh Assembly Government’s Food and Market Development Division and also Food From Britain.
“We are every grateful for the help we have received which as a first-time exporter has been tremendous.”
He added, “The next part of the deal is to export to the Canary Islands, and we are also exploring other potential European markets.”
The True Taste award-winning Authentic Curry Company was formed in 1995 and now produces 90 different dishes and employs 30 people.
Said Mr Trotman, “The Spanish deal is not only good for the company, but for the local economy as we will be recruiting extra staff to meet the demands of our export orders.”
