Lovely Jubbly - Calypso’s smoothie is a Spanish hit- Full article
A Welsh drinks company is celebrating after its new home-freezeable smoothie was named Best New British Product at the Alimentaria International food and drink exhibition in Spain. Wrexham-based Calypso Soft Drinks was awarded the title by Food from Britain, for its Jubbly Smoothie which is made from pure juice and crushed fruit. Calypso, which made its debut at Alimentaria under the auspices of the Welsh Assembly Government’s International Business Wales and True Taste banner, produces a variety of healthy soft drinks and freeze drinks. The Jubbly Smoothie, said Calypso’s Sales and Marketing Director Richard Cooke “combines the unique tetrahedral shape of the original Jubbly which coined a catchphrase in the 1960s with the smoothie taste and texture that is one of the current success stories in healthier soft drinks.” All exhibiting companies are invited to enter a new product into the Food from Britain competition and showcase. In order to qualify, the product must have been launched since Alimentaria ’06. Guillermo Alvarez de Lorenzana Managing Director of Food from Britain Spain, said, “This is a very innovative product, both for the packaging and because this is an ambient product that you can freeze at home and becomes an ice-cream, with the quality of a smoothie.” Said Richard Cooke, “We’re not surprised but we’re certainly delighted that the Spaniards have recognised the Jubbly Smoothie for what it is - a cool and fun new way to enjoy a juice smoothie that is likely to appeal to adults as well as children.” “This will help us to achieve our targets not only of expanding the UK freeze-drink category to include a wider age group but also of extending our reach in the European soft drinks market.” Next month the Jubbly Smoothie will be launched UK-wide and will be available in two varieties, Orange, Mango & Passion Fruit, and Strawberry & Banana. The bi-annual Alimentaria International food and drink exhibition took place in Barcelona (10-14 March). - Article published on:
