Welsh food and drink producers are heading for Birmingham this week and one of the biggest consumer events of the year, the BBC Good Food Show (November 28-December 2).
Held at the NEC, the event features over 500 exhibitors with food theatres, tasting workshops, and master classes; with celebrity chefs including Gordon Ramsey, Jamie Oliver, James Martin and Rick Stein.
A number of Welsh food and drink companies will be exhibiting at the event under the Welsh Assembly Government’s True Taste banner.
Among them will be Welsh Farm Organics, hot on the heels from its success at the True Taste Wales Food and Drink Awards 2007. The Mid Wales producer and online farm shop will have a range of products including the award-winning organic sirloin of lamb, Welsh Beef, Montgomeryshire air dried ham and burgers.
First there was fudge, then there were smoothies and cheese, now goats’ milk confectionary company Kid Me Not has further expanded its product range by launching a range of chocolate.
The family-run business from Talley near Llandeilo uses milk from its own herd of goats to make all its products. Available in bars as well as in festive shapes, the range will shortly include fresh goats cream champagne truffles in time for Christmas.
Launched just two months ago Newport based Savina UK offers a range of new and innovative Mediterranean food and gift hampers including Fruit Fiesta, a spiced rum liqueur which won gold at this year’s Great Taste Awards. The company will be launching its website at the show www.savinauk.com enabling customers to create their own hampers.
Thirsty visitors will be able to buy 50cl bottles of still and sparkling Brecon Carreg Natural Mineral Water. As well as helping to quench thirsts at the Show the company will be displaying its whole range of bottles which includes flat and sports caps.
Sour Cream and Cotswold Wild Garlic, Roast Ox, Ham & English Mustard, and Sweet Chilli, are just some of the crisps from the Real Crisp range which will be available at the Show.
The Newport based company is Wales’ only crisp manufacturer and sells its crisps nationwide.
The award-winning Daioni range of branded flavoured Welsh organic milk drinks will be available at the Show courtesy of Trioni Ltd.
The Pembrokeshire company’s drinks come in strawberry, chocolate, banana and cranberry and raspberry flavours and are low in sugar and fat and contain no artificial flavourings or colours. Daioni -which is Welsh for 'goodness' - comes in 250ml and 125ml cartons.
Caerphilly based Castle Chocolates will be taking their new champagne and Baileys truffles, along with a range of castle shaped products and traditional chocolates.
Showing its range of single estate extra virgin olive oils will be Bridgend based Ferranti which produces oils from its own ancient olive groves in Catalan, Spain.
The three olive varieties - Sevillenca, Morrut and Farga - are grown by the Ferranti family in their olive groves in the foothills of the Coll de L’Alba Mountain range.
Also at the Show will be almonds, which are harvested from the 300 almond trees which are inter-planted throughout the olive groves. The company also owns several vineyards in the region and will be showcasing its wine at the event.
A popular featured company on the QVC television shopping channel’s ‘A Taste of Wales’ show, Harvies Pies will be taking six of their individual pie varieties.
The Flintshire company will have steak & ale, steak & kidney, steak with horseradish & wholegrain mustard, steak, brandy & cracked peppercorn and steak Wellington.
While Bouncing Berry, a cheddar cheese with cranberries will be making its first appearance at the BBC Good Food Show. Also available from the Snowdonia Cheese Company are the colourfully packaged Black Bomber, Green Thunder, Red Devil, Pickle Power, Ginger Spice and Amber Mist.
