Profile:
The Haemair mission is to produce respiratory aids that range from devices that support respiration for patients with deficient lungs to devices that may replace human lungs. Our devices aim to support mobile, conscious patients. Unlike most conventional treatment for lung deficiency, the devices do not use the lungs. Thus, they allow deficient lungs to rest and recover rather than forcing damaged lungs to work harder through mechanically supported breathing. Furthermore, the devices allow patients to be taken out of intensive care into general wards. Ultimately, our patients should be allowed home. The devices are aimed at both acute and chronic lung conditions. In Europe and North America alone, taking both acute and chronic conditions, our device offers hope to approximately 1 million people per annum who currently die of lung disease or lung damage. The basis of the device is a blood/air mass exchanger. This exchanger takes carbon dioxide from the blood and transfers oxygen into the blood. It is compact, portable and suitable for conscious, active patients.
