Centre for Solar Energy Research (PhD Studentship - Photovoltaics)

Centre for Solar Energy Research (CSER)
Partner of the Welsh Energy Research Centre (WERC)

CSER is the management hub of the SUPERGEN consortium "Photovoltaic Materials for the 21st Century" (PV21), with more than 20 years combined experience in photovoltaic (PV) and metal-organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD).

The offered studentship is an exciting project, funded for 3 ½ years, to explore novel ways of increasing photon capture for various thin film PV technologies. The dynamic team at CSER has a unique capability to research high quality materials by MOCVD techniques (achieving high cell efficiencies).  Various other deposition techniques will also be available for achieving the student’s goals. Extensive equipment capabilities will be available for characterisation.  The project will allow the PhD student to have the unique prospect for training with top class PV research groups in the UK. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to travel and work with 7 other Universities nationwide and 6 industrial partners as part of the PV Supergen project.

- Masters or diploma degree in physics or (materials, physical or inorganic) chemistry with excellent grades

Technium OpTIC, based in North Wales, is part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Technium initiative to create a network of business incubation centres throughout Wales.  The concept is to build new and successful businesses using co-located resources of Technology, Business, and Incubation Centres. 

The OpTIC Technology Centre is fast becoming a major force in technology transfer of next generation optoelectronic solutions to internal and external clients.  It is majoring in optoelectronic materials, thin films, surface structuring, and optical packaging.  The OpTIC facility is run by Optropreneurs Limited, a private sector company, who are currently seeking the following self-motivated individuals to strengthen the sales, technology and incubation teams. 

Technical Sales Manager
Responsible for identifying sales opportunities and winning business for the OpTIC Technology Centre, this position is key to the development and growth of the capabilities within the OpTIC’s centres of expertise.  The successful candidate will be an experienced manager with a firm technical and commercial background and proven track record in the opto-electronics industry. 

Technology Manager
Working with the internal and external client base to provide commercial programme management, ensuring that Technology Centre contracts are delivered to specification, quality, cost and time.  A proven track record in a similar role is essential.
