Welcome to the Engineering Centre for Manufacturing and Materials.
Companies in the manufacturing engineering and materials sectors can now lease space in a laboratory complex in Port Talbot, South Wales, devoted to Research and Development. Acquired from Corus plc by the Welsh Development Agency in 2002 with funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, the 100,000 sq. ft facility is known as the Engineering Centre for Manufacturing and Materials, or ECM² for short.

At ECM²
, companies can undertake Research and Development in collaboration with academia and they can also develop their ideas to the prototype stage. There is a wide range of laboratory space as well as a number of high headroom bays suitable for large-scale activities. Already on site are companies offering analytical and mechanical testing services, a fully-equipped engineering workshop and associated design facilities.

Situated in South Wales, close to junction 38 of the M4 motorway, ECM² is easily reached from both east and west. An added attraction is the availability of a suite of fully equipped conference and meeting rooms, which tenants and external organisations can hire for their own use.

ECM² aims to support the development of modern manufacturing and innovative materials processing techniques. There is a special emphasis on metals forming, since a tube hydroformer and a conventional press are available for experimental purposes.

Key ECM² features include:

  • Conventional laboratories and offices
  • Five high ceiling bays with gantry cranes
  • Conference and meeting room facilities
  • Anton Bauer Hydroformer
  • Hot dip galvanising simulator
