Knowledge Exploitation Fund

The Knowledge Exploitation Fund provides financial assistance to enable Higher and Further Education Institutions in Wales to create a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation, develop the skills of staff and students within their institutions, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge to industry.
Supported by the Welsh Assembly Government and European Union Structural Funds, KEF seeks to build upon collaborative R&D undertaken between Welsh universities and private industry, and to enhance the knowledge transfer between established centres of expertise in Higher and Further Education and knowledge-led businesses.
Culture Change and Capacity Building.
If Wales is to develop a sustainable knowledge-based economy, then the capacity to support entrepreneurship and innovation must be built into our Higher and Further Education institutions, and a recognition and appreciation of both fields must be ingrained into the culture of our institutions. KEF supports:
Skills Development and Training.
KEF is helping to ensure that staff and students receive the level of training necessary to deliver the objectives laid out in institutions’ strategies for entrepreneurship and innovation. KEF supports:
Commercialisation and Knowledge Transfer.
Within our Higher and Further Education institutions there are untapped reserves of patentable ideas, specialist skills and knowledge which can add real benefit to the economy. KEF supports the development and transfer of the institutions’ knowledge through the following funding areas:
